We're kicking off the season with a clean-up along the Mississippi in Minneapolis, part of the citywide Earth Day Clean-Up on April 18th. Come with your kayak to help! We plan to paddle from Riverfront Park in Fridley down to Boom Island, picking up trash from the river and along the shore as we go. If you don't have a kayak, you can volunteer on land too! Bags and gloves will be provided. Be sure to RSVP so we can arrange cooperative shuttling and carpooling. We hope lots of volunteers can come out and help keep our river clean!
For those coming with kayaks that want to cooperate on shuttling, we will meet at Riverfront Regional Park boat launch at 9:30 am to drop boats and gear. Then someone will watch the boats and drivers will shuttle vehicles to the end and carpool back. Those who get a ride back up will give others a ride back to their vehicles after. Otherwise if you don't come at 9:30 to coordinate with the group, you will be responsible for your own transportation on each end. We plan to be on the water at about 10:30 am.
Don't forget your pfd and a dry bag with extra clothes just in case of any mishaps.. water is still cold so you'll want to stay comfortable if you accidentally get wet!
Kayak trip is approx. 5 miles.
All trips are weather permitting and subject to change. Be sure to RSVP by email for up-to-date info. To RSVP email booking@twincitieskayaking.com
We will launch from Bohemian Flats at 11 am and paddle from Bohemian Flats park to Hidden Falls park, going through the lock and dam #1.
To participate in collaborative shuttling/carpools be to Bohemian Flats to drop boats by 10 am. Then we will all shuttle some vehicles down to the end and carpool back up.
Bring a lunch or snacks. We will take a break at White Sands Beach along the way. Trip should take about 4 hours.
Dress for the weather. For spring paddling, always bring a dry bag with extra clothes in case you get wet and/or cold.
You will need transportation at both ends, so make your shuttling plans in advance. Let us know if you plan to meet at 10 am for cooperative shuttling: booking@twincitieskayaking.com. For cooperative shuttling, you should expect to give others a ride one way or another. Or if you come with a friend, drive two vehicles and leave one at each end. Note that parking lot at Bohemian Flats is a pay lot.
Come along with your own gear for no charge. Or rent a kayak for discounted rate of $59 plus tax per person. Must reserve rentals in advance by emailing booking@twincitieskayaking.com.
